How was the T3 born?

The Volkswagen T3 is the natural successor to the legendary Bulli T1 and T2. In the late 1970s, it seemed that the iconic Bulli, designed almost three decades earlier, would never disappear from the roads. However, Volkswagen engineers knew it was time for a change. The automotive industry was developing at a dizzying pace, and the Transporter needed a fresh approach.

Production of the T3 began in May 1979. The third generation retained the classic rear-engine layout while incorporating modern solutions of its time. The T3 became a reliable partner for families, craftsmen, travelers and dreamers. Today, it's considered a true classic, evoking memories and the atmosphere of a bygone era.

Its angular lines and diverse model versions have forever shaped the image of 1980s delivery vans. Although the Transporter T4 appeared in 1990, heralding another revolution, the "3" never disappeared from the market. It was even produced in South Africa until 2002, a testament to its extraordinary durability and popularity.

The Volkswagen Transporter T3 from COBI is a model with soul. When you build it, you'll feel as if you've briefly returned to a time when journeys began with loading a van and setting off into the unknown.

This set captures emotion, nostalgia and the joy of creation, all wrapped up in a small, beautiful model.
